Yes, for almost every event you'll want an attendant with your photo booth. They keep the line moving, fix paper jams in seconds, and help shy guests loosen up. At QuickPic, an on-site attendant comes with every package at no extra cost, starting at $800 for 3 hours.
That's the short answer. The longer one depends a bit on your crowd, your venue, and how much you want to think about the booth once the party starts (our guess: not at all). Here's what an attendant actually does, when a drop-off booth can work, and what you get with QuickPic Photo Booth, serving Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.
What does a photo booth attendant actually do?
A good attendant runs the booth from the moment it's built until the last strip prints. You won't notice most of what they do, and that's the point.
Before doors open, they set up the booth, the lighting, and your backdrop, test the camera and printer, and load your custom print template. We arrive ninety minutes early so all of this happens before your guests walk in, and setup time is never counted against your booked hours.
Once the booth is live, the attendant is part host, part tech support. They wave people over, hand out props, show guests where to stand, and count them in so nobody gets caught mid-blink. If the printer needs fresh paper or the queue starts backing up, they handle it without you ever hearing about it.
At the end of the night, they pack everything up and clear the space. You walk away with your prints, your guests walk away with theirs, and your full digital gallery follows after the event.
Why not just rent a booth without an attendant?
Some companies offer drop-off booths with no one on site. They can look cheaper on paper, and for a small, low-key gathering they might be fine. For most events, though, you end up paying for it in other ways.
The big one is troubleshooting. Printers are the most finicky part of any booth. Paper runs out, ink needs swapping, a setting gets bumped. Without an attendant, the person who fixes that is you, or your maid of honour, or the coworker who "knows computers." Nobody wants to spend the reception crouched behind a printer.
Then there's the flow. An unstaffed booth tends to get a rush early in the night, then sits empty once the novelty wears off. Guests don't always know how it works, so they skip it. An attendant keeps the energy going by inviting people over, grabbing the grandparents for a group shot, and nudging the dance floor crowd in for one more round.
Last thing: your gear and your guests. Someone has to keep an eye on the equipment, the props, and the kids who've decided the backdrop is a jungle gym. That's a lot to ask of a host who also wants to enjoy the party.
Is an attendant included in QuickPic packages?
Yes, in every single one. We don't sell a stripped-down drop-off option, because we'd rather every booking go smoothly. Here's what our Open-Air booth packages look like:
- •Essential: 3 hours, $800 (our most booked)
- •Signature: 4 hours, $900
- •Extended: 5 hours, $1,000
- •Extra Hour: $100 each, if the party's still going
Each package also includes unlimited prints, a customizable print template, a prop collection, your choice of backdrop, QR code instant sharing, GIF and boomerang effects, and a digital gallery of everything. You can see the full breakdown on our packages page.
Run the numbers and the Essential package works out to about $267 per hour, with the attendant baked in. You're not paying a separate staffing fee on top.
Can the attendant help with a guest book?
They can, and it's one of our favourite add-ons. With the Leather Guest Book ($95), your attendant takes a copy of each print and mounts it into the book, and guests write a note right next to their photo. By the end of the night you've got a keepsake full of faces and messages, and you didn't have to chase anyone down for it.
This one really only works with someone on site. A drop-off booth can't glue prints into a book or remind guests to sign it.
Will the attendant blend in at a formal event?
Yes. If your event is black tie, just tell us the dress code and we'll match it. Black-tie attire is available on request, so the person running your booth looks like they belong at the gala, not like they wandered in from a loading dock.
For corporate events, the attendant can also help guests through any branded touches you've added, like Custom Branding ($150) with logo overlays, screens, and print frames. You can see more of what's possible on our experiences page.
When might you not need an attendant?
Truth is, the cases are pretty rare. If you're hosting a small backyard get-together with a handful of tech-savvy friends and you don't care about prints, a self-serve setup could be enough.
But once you add any of these, an attendant starts paying for themselves:
- •More than a few dozen guests
- •Prints that need to keep flowing all night
- •Kids, grandparents, or anyone who's never used a booth
- •A wedding, gala, or holiday party where you're the host and want to be off duty
- •A venue with rules about who handles equipment
How do you get the most out of your booth attendant?
A few small things on your end make a big difference.
Share your timeline. If the attendant knows when speeches, first dances, or the cake cutting happen, they can time the booth's busiest stretches around those moments and gently pause during the important bits.
Pick a good spot. The booth needs about a 10x10 ft footprint with power within 25 ft. Somewhere close to the bar or the dance floor gets far more traffic than a quiet hallway.
Introduce them to your planner or venue coordinator. A quick hello before guests arrive means everyone knows who to ask if something comes up.
Tell them who matters most. Want a shot of every table, or a group photo with your college friends? Let the attendant know and they'll make it happen.

Related Questions
Does the attendant cost extra?
Nope. An on-site attendant is part of every QuickPic package, from the Essential (3 hours, $800) up to the Extended (5 hours, $1,000). There's no separate staffing fee.
Is setup time included in my booked hours?
It's not, and that's a good thing for you. We arrive ninety minutes early to build the booth and stay after to pack it up, and you're only charged for the hours the booth is live.
What happens if the printer runs out of paper mid-event?
Your attendant swaps it out and keeps things moving, usually before anyone in line even notices. You won't need to step away from the party to deal with it.
Can I add more time on the night if the party runs late?
Usually, yes. Extra hours are $100 each. Just let your attendant know, and if we're free to stay, the booth keeps running.
